Ingredients
Units Scale
For mushroom pesto:
- 2 cups crimini mushrooms, washed and sliced
- 1 tbsp of butter
- 2 large garlic cloves
- 1 cup fresh basil
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- 1 tsp coarse sea salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
For brushing on top:
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 garlic clove, grated
- 1 tsp parsley, chopped
For pull apart bread:
- 16 oz. store bought pizza dough
- Flour for rolling out dough
- Mushroom pesto
- 3 tbsp of grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Allow pizza dough to come to room temperature for easier rolling.
- Preheat oven temp to 425°F and line a 9×12 baking tray with parchment paper.
- To make the pesto, in a medium skillet, lightly sauté your mushrooms with butter until soft, remove from heat and set aside. Pulse the garlic, basil, parsley, and sea salt, in the food processor. Pulse a few times. Slowly start adding the olive oil until well combined. Then add the mushrooms, careful not to add the juices from the pan, and pulse until the mushrooms are minced in texture.
- To prepare the Christmas tree, roll the two halves of the dough out until it is roughly the same size as your baking tray. Slice both halves into a big triangle roughly the same size.
- Layer on the mushroom pesto to one side of the dough, followed by the parmesan cheese. Place the other layer of dough on top. Make slits along the edges of the tree, leaving the center untouched. Twist each strip.
- Combine melted butter, garlic and parsley into a bowl and brush over the top of the tree so it gets golden brown in the oven.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve hot.
