Serve this sweet and spicy mushroom skewer as an appetizer with some toasted bread or as a side with grilled steak, chicken, or fish.

  • 2 packages (227 g) whole crimini mushrooms, cut in half
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds


  1. If using, soak wooden skewers in water to prevent burning.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oil, oyster sauce, honey, and red pepper flakes. Add mushrooms; toss to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat grill to medium-high. Skewer mushrooms. Place skewers on grill; cook 3-4 minutes on each side, until mushrooms have softened and are lightly charred.
  4. Serve sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds.
