So simple to prepare! Serve as a memorable side dish for chicken, duck, salmon or rice dishes. Also makes a wonderful first course, for a dinner party, with watercress on the side.

large fresh shiitake mushrooms (about 12-16)

lite tamari or soya sauce

Garnish: toasted sesame seeds or black pepper to taste (optional)
Remove stems from mushrooms*, wipe caps with damp cloth and place cap side up in lightly greased shallow baking dish. In a measuring cup combine remaining ingredients and spoon over the mushroom caps. Bake in 350ºF (180ºC) oven or barbecue for 25-30 minutes. Garnish as desired.
